Discover the world of wool
From Sheep to Yarn
Watch as the sheep at the Open Air Museum and Dutchmoors are sheared, both by hand and with electric shears. Then help sort the fleece and discover how to wash raw wool so it doesn’t felt. At the haystack, our museum docents will teach you how to dye wool using plants from our own herb garden. At the Blauw Los Huus, you’ll see how the wool is fluffed, carded, and spun into yarn.
In short: a unique experience where you’ll discover, step by step, how wool is transformed from sheep to yarn.
Want to give it a try yourself?
You can do so in a variety of workshops. Felt your own piece of fabric from raw wool, learn the basics of weaving, or discover the art of embroidery. You’re also welcome to join us on the knitting terrace for a creative project or just to hang out. No experience is necessary—everyone is welcome.
