Venloos greenhouse
The Venlo greenhouse – just what was needed in a crisis.
Not just effective, but cheap too: in the crisis years of the 1930s the Venlo greenhouse was the right greenhouse at the right time. Over the preceding decades people had already been cultivating fruit and vegetables in greenhouses, but these were always fairly expensive, as a lot of material was needed to build them. The secret of the Venlo greenhouse was its very simple structure, which made it much cheaper to build. This was just what was needed in the midst of an economic crisis. Venlo greenhouses also allowed plenty of light in, thanks to the large area of glass. This allowed crops to thrive. As a result, the Venlo greenhouse quickly grew in popularity and remained in production for many years. This greenhouse dates from 1968 and until 1999 formed part of a complex of greenhouses in Huissen.
1968. Relocated here in 1999.
