Oldambtster Farmhouse
This building dates from 1796 – as you can see on the gable
Tammo Karsijns and Grietje Amelings modernised this farmhouse in 1796. They incorporated the year and their initials into the metal wall tie that you can see on the gable. In 1804 they also acquired full ownership of the land on which the building stood. From 1866 the Koster family lived here. The interior is theirs and dates from around 1929. This was a turbulent time that saw mass strikes by agricultural labourers and a major economic crisis. For the farming industry the crisis actually began midway through the 1920s. By the 1930s many farmers were struggling to keep their heads above water. Labourers were laid off and ended up being assigned to work relief projects.
Relocated here in 1974. Interior: 1929.
