Archery range
A spot of archery while enjoying a drink
It is no coincidence that this archery range is located right next to the bar. For many years archery was a real pub game, much like darts or pool nowadays. This archery range is a copy of the range belonging to the De Roos archery club, which was founded in 1889 in Roermond-Kapel. At that time it was located behind the bar known as Café Dycks, which meant a nice glass of beer was always within easy reach. At both ends of the range are targets, in front of which the actual target (or ‘butt’) hangs. The competitor would take aim from 12 metres away. Any stray arrows (there were probably more and more of these after each glass) would hit the boards. In the southern provinces of the Netherlands in particular archery was a popular sport that was taken increasingly seriously. Eventually, this pub game even became an Olympic sport.
