Farmhouse
The Open Air Museum was built around this farmhouse
This farmhouse was built on this exact spot between 1763 and 1807. At that time this part of the Dutch Open Air Museum’s grounds was still known as the Waterberg estate. The farmhouse
was home to the family who worked the farmland on the estate. Unlike many small farms in the Veluwe region, this farmhouse was fairly spacious and comfortable. The walls were made of brick instead of wood or clay, the large windows allowed plenty of light in and the front door opened into a hallway rather than directly into the living room. This stopped heat escaping every time the door was opened. In short, this farmhouse exuded a great deal more affluence and was much more comfortable than the small farmhouse from Vierhouten (number 1.4), for example.
