Farmhouse
This farmhouse is not all that it seems.
At first sight this farmhouse appears to be a rather wide brick building. Walk through the right-hand door, however, and you will see that behind this wide façade is actually a fairly narrow house. A large brick façade like this was more prestigious than clay, which is why brick façades were built in front of many clay houses in South Limburg in the 18th and 19th centuries. They gave these buildings a much smarter appearance. If finances allowed, or if bricks were cheap enough, new half-timbered walls were filled in with bricks or clay infills were replaced with bricks when walls were repaired. The enclosed design of this farmhouse is the result of a series of alterations. The form you see now dates from 1860. After 1893 no further changes were made to the interior. Inside the occupants are preparing for the First Communion of Pierreke Lienaerts.
From 1750. Relocated here in 1930. Interior: 1850.
