Become a maker at the Craft Workshop
Making an object yourself is not something you learn from a book. This is a special form of knowledge that you can only pick up from practical experience. Craftspeople pass on their knowledge in this way from generation to generation. The better you are able to do something, the easier it is to see how it could be done differently. This is what gives crafts their innovative power.
In our Craft Workshop you can try your hand at crafts yourself! There are two workshops that you can attend. At weekends you can follow 45-minute workshops that will help you get to know a craft. On weekdays there are 90-minute workshops during which you can delve into a craft in a little more depth.
Wood Workshop
Introduction to working with wood
In this workshop you will have the chance to work with wood. Depending on the time available and your skills, you can work on a woodcarving or make a stool or napkin holder, for example. Participants in these workshops must be at least 10 years old. You will find more detailed information about each workshop on the page of the workshop concerned. Don’t forget to book your place on the workshop online before visiting the Dutch Open Air Museum!

Exhibition
The Craft Workshop also houses an exhibition in which contemporary craftspeople Edgar Boudens, Annemieke Koster, Esmé Hofman and Frank Jol talk about their crafts and the relevance and value of traditional crafts to today’s society.
Craftspeople are masters when it comes to solving problems. Their workspaces are places of tradition, but also of experimentation and innovation. Through their traditional work they inspire responses to current challenges, in the area of sustainability for example.
