Visit the syrup distillery
Discover black gold!
Delicious! If you ever eat a sandwich containing Limburg apple syrup, you are tasting part of Limburg’s history. Farmers in southern and central Limburg have been making apple syrup and apple-and-pear syrup for centuries, initially to use up surplus fruit and, since well before 1750, also to top up their income.
If you visit the Museum, a visit to the Syrup Distillery is well worthwhile. Pears and apples are distilled there in a copper cauldron. The juice is pressed from the cooked fruit and thickened into syrup.
