Magic like in the twenties
Various days
In the early 20th century, magic tricks were a very popular form of entertainment in Western Europe. Theatre and variety dominated the entertainment industry; feature films were on the rise but not yet as widespread. Magicians, who until the late 18th century were still mainly to be found on the streets, had established themselves in the theatres and salons of the elite during the following century.
Magic in the 1920s was 'modern'. Much of the repertoire of the time is still performed today. Tricks with cards were very popular, but there was also plenty of magic with coins, cigarettes and silk cloths.
