Harvesting flax
July 20 and 21 from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM
The Story of Flax
These days, there’s plenty to see in the field near Midlum. The flax is being harvested and processed step by step, just as it was in the old days. You can see how the flax is pulled, retted, and scutched—the first steps in the process of turning it into linen. This used to be a common practice in the Netherlands, but it’s almost never done anymore. That’s why we’re showing you here how this ancient craft was carried out.
