Boatyard
Every day
This boatyard was built in 1885 in Marken harbour. The slipway served as a repair yard. Boats were hauled up the slipway using a capstan (a revolving wooden cylinder with spokes).
When the Zuider Zee was enclosed with the construction of the Afsluitdijk, fishing went into decline and business at this Boatyard started to drop off. The yard closed in 1947 and was transferred to the Holland Open Air Museum.
