How do you make a wheel?
Making a perfectly round wagon wheel may sound like a simple task, but it actually requires great skill. In the 19th century many farmers from Achterhoek made it their speciality. Up until 1920 they worked with simple machines powered by steam or a basic engine. Electric tools were subsequently introduced.
The wheels that were made in ‘t Woold, a hamlet close to Winterswijk, were sold to customers from as far away as Amsterdam and Oberhausen.
