About the organisation
Who are we?
The Dutch Open Air Museum in Arnhem uses authentic buildings, objects and true stories to capture the history of everyday life. Come with us on a journey through time – from two hundred years ago to the recent past. There’s so much to see and do! You’ll meet the museum staff, who appear to have stepped straight out of the past. Proud of their heritage, they will inspire you with their stories and will be curious to hear your story too.
In the interactive Canon of Dutch History presentation near the entrance you can see and experience the ‘key events’ from our country’s history. Step into the shoes of a slave, experience just how tough work was in days gone by or steer your own ship. In the film room you will soon learn more about the history of your own region. It’s well worth a visit!
Are you visiting the museum with children? They can ‘get to work’ at the Children’s Activity Farmyard or play on the beautiful Zaan Square. Will you sample the Dutch pancakes, a hearty home-made soup or maybe those fresh currant buns from the baker? And how do we travel today? Take the historic tram or or take a gentle stroll through time yourself.
