What do gabber music, flag-waving, falafel, and barrel-tapping have in common? Maybe more than you think! During FestIEval on June 20 and 21 at the Dutch Open Air Museum, you’ll discover just how diverse intangible cultural heritage is in the Netherlands. There’s plenty to experience throughout the museum park. You don’t just watch—you can join in too! From music and dance to rituals, traditions, crafts, and food, heritage is all around us.

The Dutch Open Air Museum is looking for IKEA items with a story
IKEA—we’ve been hooked on it in the Netherlands since 1978. That was the year the Swedish home furnishings store opened its first location in our country, in Sliedrecht, South Holland. Today, you can take home a PAX, KLIPPAN, or BILLY from no fewer than fourteen locations. These are pieces of furniture that have left their mark on everyday life in the Netherlands. That is why the Dutch Open Air Museum is seeking IKEA classics from the period 1978–2008 to expand its museum collection. Do you have a vase or folding chair in the attic or one that is no longer in use? They might be of great interest to the museum.
