Tram - Route Nederlands Openluchtmuseum, Arnhem

Route

In total, the tram line at the museum is 2.3 kilometres long and follows a more or less circular route through the entire museum park. This means that visitors can now quickly reach the other side of the museum. The tram stops in six different places along the route.

The route runs over an undulating site, which is relatively uncommon in the tram world. Drivers have to pay careful attention, especially in 'slippery conditions', to prevent the tram from skidding.

Reversing triangle

When a tram constantly performs circuits in the same direction, the wheels suffer irregular wear. Fortunately, a tram, just like a train, can be operated from both ends. From time to time the tram is therefore turned around to prevent the wheels from wearing out. These turning manoeuvres are performed on the reversing triangle, which is also useful if one tram wants to pass another.
