HollandRamaA mysterious, egg-shaped building adorns the entrance to the museum. It is 10 metres tall, covered with copper plating, and doesn’t have any doors! This building houses the internationally award-winning attraction HollandRama.
You will find the entrance on the lower floor of the entrance pavilion, but before you actually go in you are invited to get to know the people of the Netherlands. A series of small displays provides a stimulating picture of how we dress, eat and live today. Objects, family snapshots and home movies also show how we and our forefathers used to live. Time capsuleHollandRama is a combination of a modern time capsule and an innovative panorama. The capsule whisks you away on an amazing journey, criss-crossing through the Netherlands of yesteryear and today. Typical landscapes and townscapes are revealed around you in six panoramic narratives: from a winter's scene in the 1960s to an 18th century canalside scene. One minute you are looking down at the bed of the Zuiderzee, and the next you are gazing up at the turning sails of a windmill. You experience morning and evening, spring and winter. The combination of your moving seat, lighting and sound effects, plus panoramas, home videos and authentic objects, offers you a fascinating insight into everyday life in the Netherlands.
The capsule that holds the seats is mounted on a lifting arm, which enables it to revolve 355 degrees on its axis and rise to a height of 7.5 metres. It is also equipped with rails that allow it to cover a distance of 11 metres. The capsule tilts slightly when the show starts, creating the effect of tiered theatre seating and ensuring that you have a clear view over the heads of the people in front of you. Thanks to the system of moving 'apertures' (created using a double ceiling that can be raised and lowered), the various scenes and panoramas can be displayed in any desired size. Several shows each dayThere are several HollandRama shows each day between 11.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m. The presentation lasts approximately 20 minutes. Unfortunately, due to the moving platform, HollandRama is unsuitable for wheelchairs. Dogs are not permitted inside the capsule. |
