Winter at the Open Air Museum

The leaves have fallen from the trees and the weather is turning colder: winter is just around the corner. From 9 December to 21 January visitors to the Open Air Museum can experience winter as it was in days gone by! Find out what the Open Air Museum has to offer, inside and outside, during this colourful season. Have fun gliding around our skating rink, stack wood during the Landleven Winter (Winter Country Life) event, discover the Canon of Dutch History and keep the cold at bay with a warming mug of hot chocolate and delicious pancakes. Enjoy a wonderful, traditional winter’s day at the Open Air Museum.

On this page you will find more information about our winter programme, which runs from 9 December 2017 to 21 January 2018.* Download your map now and see what activities you can get involved in at the museum!

Attention: We are closed on the 25th of December and the 1st of January.

Winter exhibitions

Various exhibitions in the museum park give you an insight into how people made it through the winter and what life was like at this time of year. The themes covered include the use of lamps and cod-liver oil, homelessness, knitting for soldiers during the First World War and the situation faced by the Moluccans, who had to adapt to the cold Dutch climate.
