On the Zaan Square you will find a test-your-strength game, a crockery-smash stall and an old-fashioned winter fair.
In a newspaper from 1913 the crockery-smash stall is described as the perfect way to ‘release built-up tension’. The test-your-strength game was given its Dutch name ‘Kop van Jut’ (‘Jut’s Head’) in 1876. This was the year in which Hendrik Jacobus Jut was convicted for the murder of the widow Van der Kouwen. Through this game the people therefore had a chance to take their revenge.
