Going for a Chinese
in the Open Air Museum

Holland in just one day

In a beautiful, wooded park on the outskirts of Arnhem lies a very special museum. Step into more than 80 historic houses, farmhouses and mills, and spend a day discovering how ordinary Dutch people have lived over the last few hundred years.

Welcome

For centuries the Netherlands has welcomed immigrants from other countries. These people have left their homes behind to build a new life for themselves. Their stories form an inextricable part of Dutch history. Over the coming years, visitors will be able to find out more and more about these stories at the Open Air Museum.

History brought to life

Meet friendly farmers, the wheelwright, the blacksmith, the fisherman and the miller. As they work, they will paint you a colourful picture of their lives. You may even get the chance to roll up your sleeves yourself!

Going for a Chinese

New for 2010: from 1950 onwards the people of the Netherlands began to eat out with increasing frequency. Chinese restaurants opened up in more and more towns and villages. ‘The Chinese’ served delicious food in generous portions and was affordable too. At the Open Air Museum you will become acquainted with the people from ‘The Chinese’ and will have a chance to learn about their lives and their own menu.
