Small farmhouseFor generations the Roman Catholic Reinders family lived in this farmhouse, which was home to between eight and ten people. Often the income from the farm was notenough to feed all these mouths. Meagre incomes were supplemented with secondary jobs such as butchery and trading. The loom in the side room hints at the textile cottage industry in this region, which also served as a way of earning some extra money. Local merchants asked farmers to process and weave flax. Woven linen was sold to dealers from the west. In 1927, the Achterhoek region was hit by a hurricane; 54 farmhouses were destroyed and 37 were severely damaged. The farmhouse belonging to the Reinders family was not so badly affected. It was transferred to the museum. Back to overview of buildings |
