Farmhouse

Modifications have been made in this farmhouse for blind and visually impaired visitors and information is available in Braille.

From the milk room, milk cellar and large cowshed, it is clear that dairy cattle breeding was extremely important to this farmer. There was room for as many as sixteen cows. The large horse-driven mill, used for churning, is a particularly striking feature. The butter was sold at market. ‘Het botert niet’ (literally: ‘the butter won’t come’) is a Dutch expression originating from the time when butter was made in this way and is derived from the fact that churning was not always successful. Today, if you say this about two people, it means that they don't get on.
The name of this farmhouse, 'Caterstee', tells us that a smallholder lived here originally.
