Holiday chalet

No lesser person than the famous architect Gerrit Rietveld (1888 – 1964) designed this holiday chalet. Six identical chmuseumalets were built on the Hessenheem family campsite in Markelo. They were commissioned by the Albatros superphosphate factory in Pernis and the De Vries Robbé metal construction company in Gorinchem. These companies offered their staff the opportunity to take a healthy holiday in the countryside. Thanks to the clever use of space, the chalet has room to sleep 8 people and also has a small WC. There is no shower or heating, however. When, from the 1980s onwards, holidaymakers started to expect greater comfort, chalets such as this became difficult to let. With support from the Arch Foundation, the De Hessenheem outdoor centre was able to preserve this little chalet. Back to overview of buildings
